The cars you can buy for R100,000

R100,000 is a lot of money – unless you are buying a new car.

Even the most affordable vehicles on the market, including the likes of the Suzuki S-Presso and Renault Kwid, will set you back around R150,000 for their entry-level versions.

It therefore makes sense to look at the second-hand market if you want to buy a car and this is your budget.

Cars lose a lot of their value once they drive off the showroom floor, and a few kilometres on the clock can save you a substantial amount when making a purchase.

Certain brands will also offer customers the option to add an extended warranty or service plan onto their vehicle, providing peace of mind if the plans included with the car have expired.

R100,000 limit

To see the types of vehicles you can expect to buy with a budget of R100,000, we looked at used car sites AutoTrader and WeBuyCars.

AutoTrader provides listings from a range of car dealerships around the country, while WeBuyCars lists the stock it has available at its branches nationwide.

For this article, cars which were over 10 years old or had mileage over 100,000km were excluded.

Unsurprisingly, small hatchbacks were the order of the day.

All vehicles were available at the time of writing.
