R3-million competitors to the new Range Rover

The new Range Rover will go on sale in South Africa in late 2022 at a starting price of R2.86 million.

At launch, a total of 19 individual models will be available spanning the HSE, Autobiography, First Edition, and SV specification grades – with three engine options on offer.

The luxurious SUV will further be available in standard and long-wheelbase body styles, with four, five, or seven-seat cabin layouts.

Standard equipment includes the largest touchscreen Land Rover has ever fitted to a vehicle: a curved 13.1-inch display with smartphone mirroring, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and navigation features.

Furthermore, every derivative is fitted with a 13.7-inch configurable instrument cluster, two 11.4-inch rear-seat infotainment displays, adaptive cruise control with steering assist, adaptive digital-LED lights, a split electric tailgate, and power-assisted doors with hazard detection.

Powertrain options for the premium Range Rover then comprise the:

  • 3.0-litre, turbo-diesel D350
  • 4.4-litre, twin-turbo-petrol P530
  • 3.0-litre, turbo-petrol hybrid P510e

The respective performance figures for these options are as follows:

  • D350 – 257kW/700Nm (0-100km/h in 6.1 seconds)
  • P530 – 390kW/750Nm (0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds)
  • P510e – 370kW + 105kW Electric (0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds and 113km electric range)

All models are driven through an eight-speed automatic gearbox and twin-speed transmission, “which provide a set of low-range ratios essential for towing or off-road driving when more control is required,” said Land Rover.
