How much you need to earn to buy an Aston Martin

Aston Martin builds gorgeous GT cars which make quite a statement.

Their entry-level Vantage produces 375kW and races to the 100km/h mark in 3.6 seconds – which puts it firmly in competition with the Lamborghini Huracan, while being almost half the price.

They even have an SUV offering, called the DBX, and sprints from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds.

This is identical to the acceleration of Bentley Bentayga, and noticeably quicker than the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, placing the DBX high up in the ranks of super SUVs.

Clearly, they do not build cars for the faint of heart – and their pricing strategy follows this same principle.

Aston Martin will ask you to part with R3 million in order to afford their cheapest vehicle.

Bank balance

You will obviously need a big paycheque to be able to afford such an exquisite GT – but exactly how big?

According to Capitec, a good rule of thumb for buying a new car is that the price should not exceed 30% of your annual gross salary.

This means you need to earn over R9,000,000 per year – before all of the hefty South African tax deductions – in order to comfortably afford the cheapest Aston Martin.

Assuming you’re not buying a R3-million car in cash, you’re most likely getting financing from a financial institution to make monthly payments more manageable.

One such provider is Absa, who has a vehicle finance calculator which we’re going to use to find out how much an Aston Martin will cost in monthly instalments.

For reference, we will be setting our own repayment terms below.

  • Payment term – 60 terms (5 years)
  • Interest rate – 9%
  • Deposit – 10%
  • Balloon – No balloon payment
  • Extra – No extras equipped

We then outline the gross salary you need to earn to own your dream Aston Martin, along with the monthly instalment payments.

It is important to note that no insurance premiums or fuel costs have been included.
