The crossover category is the fastest-growing vehicle segment in South Africa and naturally, this means a few high-performance variants have made their way into the market.
While there aren’t many powerful mini-SUVs currently on sale, buyers looking for a faster-than-average crossover will be happy to know they can choose from high-end brands including the likes of Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo, as well as more traditional value-for-money players such as Hyundai and VW.
More choice comes from a variety of drivetrains on offer, including petrol, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric, though the latter options tend to be on the pricier side of the segment.
Battery-powered crossovers are a rather new sighting on local roads with the first one, the Volvo XC40 P8 Recharge, only going on sale in the later months of 2021. The only other electric crossovers on offer are the Mercedes-Benz EQA and EQB, which are launching in the country this week.

Detailed below are the 10 most powerful crossovers money can buy in South Africa.
