Ferrari has unveiled its Purosangue “crossover” with a naturally-aspirated V12 heart.
The Purosangue is the automaker’s first stab at a vehicle in the crossover/SUV category, and it’s also one of the last premium manufacturers to join in on the super SUV craze.
Ferrari has done its homework well as its newest four-door sports a 6.5-litre unit that splits 533kW and 716Nm between the axles, capable of catapulting the crossover to 100km/h in 3.3 seconds.
Keeping your foot down will see it reach up to 310km/h, while massive stopping power is brought by 398mm brakes at the front and 380mm at the rear.
The interior of the Purosangue is a new endeavour for Ferrari, too, seeing four individual, electronically adjustable, and heated seats, along with a revitalised dual-cockpit design.
The latter ensures that the front passenger has an equally-exciting seating position as the driver, with a 10.25-inch display offering performance statistics and feature controls at their fingertips.
The new super SUV was also built with the future in mind, as 85% of the launch specification has been “sustainably produced” said Ferrari. This includes fabric roof lining and Alcantara upholstery made from recycled polyester, as well as carpets from recycled fishing nets.
High-performance super SUVs
The Ferrari Purosangue comes at a cost of $400,000 which works out to around R7 million before import costs and the likes are taken into account. Therefore, it’s expected to fetch more than this when it eventually goes on sale in South Africa.
This is how the new Maranello-made crossover compares against other super SUVs on the market.
