Best-selling cars in South Africa

Toyota’s strong performance in September is largely thanks to none other than the Hilux, which moved 2,842 units out of the total of 12,059 vehicles the company sold, making it the best-selling vehicle in South Africa.

The Hilux is just one of the many bakkies featured in last month’s top-20 performers, the others being the Isuzu D-Max with 1,968 sales, the Ford Ranger with 1,604 sales, the Nissan NP200 with 1,198 sales, and the Mahindra Pik Up with 666 sales.

Another hot feature for September was hatchbacks, with six out of the 20 spots being occupied by this body style, none being more popular than the VW Polo Vivo which saw 2,473 units finding new owners.

Crossovers were also attractive for South African car buyers in September, accounting for six entries out of the top 20. Toyota took the crown in this category again with its Urban Cruiser, which sold 1,946 examples.

One surprising feature for last month’s top performers was the Renault Triber, this being one of the first times the MPV has been on the list, swooping in to grab 18th place with 712 vehicles making their way off showroom floors.
