There are currently over 40 major car companies operating in South Africa, offering a wide range of vehicles to suit an individual’s needs.
The good news is that many of these automotive brands have at least one model on the market that is relatively affordable.
One such example is Suzuki, which presently has the cheapest new car available in the country at a starting price of R156,900, the S-Presso.
In fact, there are four other popular brands in South Africa with at least one model under R200,000 – including Toyota, Hyundai, Mahindra, and Renault.
Moving up the price bracket, there is a selection of affordable bakkies and hatchbacks to choose from, such as the Nissan NP200, GMW Steed 5, Fiat 500, and VW Polo Vivo.
There are also a number of entry-level crossovers from the likes of Chery, Haval, and Ford with the Tiggo 4 Pro, Jolion, and EcoSport.
On the other side of the spectrum, anyone looking to get their hands on something with the Lamborghini or Ferrari badge will have to be able to take out at least R4.5 million.
