Best-selling bakkies in South Africa

Bakkies remain a staple of the South African new-vehicle market, as evidenced by the 16 best-selling models collectively accounting for 10,604 (23%) of the total of 45,966 new vehicles which were sold to local buyers in October 2022.

The top performer in the light-commercial segment remained the juggernaut Toyota Hilux, seeing 3,336 customers getting into one of these bakkies last month.

Second and third place were neck-and-neck, the Ford Ranger’s 1,807 sales narrowly beating out the Isuzu D-Max’s performance by a mere 5 units.

Between third and fourth is a huge gap, however, the compact Nissan NP200 taking up the latter with 1,096 models making their way off showroom floors during October.

The Mahindra Pik Up in fifth place also sits quite far behind the Nissan in fourth, registering 624 sales.

Another Nissan, this time the Navara at 507 models moved, occupies sixth, followed by the GWM P-Series and Steed in seventh and eighth with 426 units and 349 units sold, respectively.

Ninth goes to the Toyota Land Cruiser which saw 285 models finding new owners, and sitting in tenth is the VW Amarok reporting 164 sales.

The Mitsubishi Triton, Mahindra Bolero, JAC T6 and T8, Mazda BT-50, and Peugeot Landtrek all find themselves among the best-selling bakkies in South Africa, too.
