BMW has long had a more athletic M Sport trim for its everyday cars and with its next-generation of products, it has started to offer another tier above this in the form of the M Sport Pro.
Currently, this trim is limited to only a select few models on the local market, including the new flagship 7 Series sedan.
M Sport vs M Sport Pro
Like the longstanding M Sport package, the upgraded Pro option is merely cosmetic and serves to increase the vehicle’s presence rather than performance.
Over and above the standard fitments on the new 7 Series, the M Sport offering brings more dynamic-looking front and rear aprons with Dark Shadow metallic diffuser inserts, high-gloss black side sills, M Sport badging, Shadowline darkened exterior highlights, and 20-inch 907 M light-alloy wheels in Jet Black Gloss which can be upsized to 21 inches.
Opening the door, the stylish upgrades continue with M entry sills, an M driver footrest, model-specific pedals, an M leather steering wheel, an exclusive key fob, multifunction seats, the Fineline interior trim in Black with M striping and metallic finishes, and an M-specific app in the infotainment centre.
Buyers who aren’t satisfied with these additions and want a more aggressive look, however, are now given the option to upgrade to the M Sport Pro package.
With this option, the luxurious sedan further gets the extended Shadowline exterior trimmings, a high-gloss black kidney grille, black finishes in the taillights and rear bumper, a four-pipe exhaust outlet in black, a Sapphire Black rear spoiler, the M Sport braking system with black calipers which can also be had in blue, as well as 21-inch 909M light-alloy wheels in, you guessed it, Jet Black – “with all colour variants optionally available at no extra charge,” said BMW.
For the 7 Series, which starts at R2,172,751 in South Africa, speccing the M Sport option adds R75,000 on top of the base price, while the Pro package demands a R115,000 premium.
