What you can expect to pay for the electric BMW iX1 when it lands in South Africa

The all-electric BMW iX1 is on its way to South Africa and consumers interested in the battery-powered crossover can expect to pay around R1.1 million.
The automaker did not confirm exactly what the local window sticker of its iX1 is going to be, but did say it will be over R1 million and that we can “gauge” where the price will sit when looking at its direct competitors – the Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 and Volvo XC40 P6 – which range between R1,075,000 and R1,174,000.
The electric BMW is scheduled to go on sale in the second quarter of 2023 in one specification only, with the official pricing to be announced closer to the date, said BMW South Africa.
Included in the purchase will be a BMW Flexible fast charger cable, a Mode 3 public charging cable, and a BMW Wallbox home charger.
iX1 specifications
The iX1 is coming to our showrooms in xDrive30 trim, in which it churns out 200kW and 494Nm from dual electric motors.
With this configuration, the all-wheel-drive crossover manages to complete the 0-100km/h sprint in a swift 5.6 seconds and cap out at a top speed of 180km/h.
Arguably the most important statistic for an electric vehicle, i.e. driving range, is then rated at 440km for the BMW, and charging from 10-80% on a 130kW DC plug takes 29 minutes.
At home, when making use of an 11kW AC cable on three-phase electricity, the 64.7kWh battery replenishes 0-100% in six-and-a-half hours.
The iX1 brings plenty of nice-to-haves at no additional cost, such as a 10.25-inch driver’s display, a 10.7-inch infotainment system with smartphone mirroring and BMW Connect apps, dual-zone climate control, a leather multifunction steering wheel, automatic tailgate operation, Sensatec artificial leather upholstery, cruise control with brake function, all-round automatic LED lights, and 17-inch light-alloy wheels in a distinctive star-spoke design.
Advanced driver-assist features further comprise the parking assistant package with a reverse camera and parking sensors, attentiveness assistant, and Active Guard which “monitors potential hazards, supporting drivers to react in time” as well as assists in maintaining the speed limit, said BMW.
If the M Sport package is selected, the equipment list is bolstered by an M leather steering wheel, sports seats, unique front and rear bumpers, black exterior finishes, unique 19-inch alloy wheels, and adaptive M suspension.
