Best-selling bakkies in South Africa

The popularity of the bakkie segment was unwavering in February as light-commercial vehicles – the category into which bakkies are classified – accounted for a sizeable 29% of all the new cars sold in South Africa during the shortest month of the year.

Toyota’s Hilux once again smashed the charts with 3,335 sales, accounting for around 7% of the entire market, this performance making it both the top-selling bakkie as well as vehicle in the country.

Second to the Toyota, the Ford Ranger had a solid showing and drove away with 1,806 units sold, followed closely by the Isuzu D-Max at 1,747.

In fourth, the Nissan NP200 moved 1,292 models and was the last model to crack 1,000, as fifth went to Mahindra’s Pik Up which raked in 844 sales.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Mazda BT-50 sat in sixteenth place and was the only bakkie from a major manufacturer to not clear double digits by selling seven units.
