SUVs in South Africa for the same price as the updated Toyota Fortuner
Toyota has updated its popular Fortuner range, giving the car a visual makeover and extending its spec sheet to include more items as standard.
The SUV now has a starting price of R653,500 for the entry-level model, while the range-topping VX has a tag of R897,000.
The engine line-up remains the same as before, with a selection of either a 2.4 or 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel drivetrain delivering power to the front or all four wheels.
The 2.4-litre has an output of 110kW and 400Nm, and will do anywhere from 6.8 to 7.6l/100km on an average fuel cycle depending on the transmission and wheel layout
The 2.8-litre ups the ante to 150kW and 500Nm, while offering a similar consumption figure of 7.6 to 7.9l/100km.
Most of the range is then equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, as the entry-level car is the only one that features a six-speed manual.
As for what’s new on the Fortuner, the range now sports a facelifted profile with redesigned automatic LED headlamps, daytime running lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, a new grille, side steps, roof rails, and chrome door handles.
The higher trim levels get sequential LED indicators and an electric boot door, too.
Inside, the SUV comes standard with keyless start and entry, partial leather upholstery, cruise control, manual air conditioning, hill assist, a reverse camera, front and rear park distance control, a multi-information driver display, an 8-inch infotainment console with smartphone pairing and six speakers, and Eco and Sport driving modes.
Additionally, the 2.8-litre units gain automatic dual-zone climate control, electronically-adjustable front seats, and a leather and wood steering wheel.
The top-spec VX units then differentiate themselves with an 11-speaker JBL sound system, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitors, a 360-degree camera system, and adaptive cruise control.
