Every car you can buy in South Africa under R200,000

Cars are undeniably expensive in South Africa, with more and more models seeing their prices climbing well past the R500,000 mark.

For those who are still trying to secure an affordable model, there are currently eight different cars on offer in the country which have a sticker tag of R200,000 or less.

The cheapest of these is the Suzuki S-Presso, which recently saw an update at the end of 2022, and which now retails for R165,900.

In fact, no less than four out of the eight entry-level cars on the South African market are made by Suzuki, illustrating the brand’s commitment to affordable models.

Besides the S-Presso, this list includes the Celerio, the Dzire, which is the only sedan to feature on this list, and the well-known Swift – one of the best-selling cars in the country.

Other brands include Mahindra with its KUV100, Renault and its Kwid, and Hyundai and Toyota with the Atos and Ayga.

Unfortunately, those last two cars will not be on the market much longer, as the Atos is being discontinued, while the Agya is being replaced.

There are roughly 500 units of the Atos left in stock as of the time of writing, meaning interested consumers still have an opportunity to grab one before the nameplate is dropped from local dealerships.

The Agya, on the other hand, is expected to stay on the market for another few months, as Toyota has yet to confirm when its replacement will arrive.

The replacement in question is the Toyota Vitz, which is expected to share a similar engine and spec sheet as the Suzuki Celerio when it launches in South Africa later this year.
