Next-generation Ford Ranger Tremor revealed – Photos

Ford is on a roll at the moment as new variants of the next-generation Ranger are popping up all around the world.

Not to be outdone by Ford Thailand, which recently unveiled the new Stormtrak, the blue oval’s European division has revealed the Tremor – a limited-edition model based on the XLT specification.

A representative from Ford South Africa told TopAuto that there are currently no plans to release any of these special derivatives on the local market – which makes sense given that the next-gen Ranger has only been on sale for a few months.

However, given that the previous generation eventually welcomed models like the Thunder, FX4, and Stormtrak, it’s reasonable to assume that South Africa will eventually receive at least a few of the bakkie’s unique offerings.

What’s different with Tremor

The Tremor is based on the highest-spec version of the mid-range XLT double cab. As a result, the special model is equipped with a 2.0-litre, bi-turbo diesel powertrain with 154kW and 500Nm.

It also comes with a 10-speed automatic gearbox and full-time four-wheel-drive system, as well as a variety of drive modes for Normal, Eco, Sport, Tow/Haul, Slippery, Mud and Ruts, and Sand.

Additionally, the Tremor comes standard with all of the features found on the XLT, such as C-clamp LED headlights, a 10-inch infotainment screen, automatic climate control, and parking sensors, but adds a few more functional and cosmetic elements to help it stand out as a special-edition model.

Ford describes the Tremor as an “enhanced entry for challenging off-road conditions” which is reflected in the modifications made to the double cab. This includes a set of all-terrain tyres, larger wheel arches, better ground clearance, and upgraded shock absorbers.

The Tremor has also taken certain aspects from the Raptor, such as its steel underbody plate and Trail Control mode, the latter of which functions as a type of off-road cruise control.

The side steps are now made of cast aluminium, the front bumper has a set of robust tow hooks, and the rear bed incorporates a tubular sports bar, too.

Aesthetically, the Ranger is available in an exclusive boulder grey colour scheme with a black grille, and the interior sports a water-resistant vinyl trim for both the seats and floor mats.

The cabin is also equipped with a set of overhead auxiliary switches for controlling accessories like an overhead light bar or a winch.
