Cheapest pre-owned hatchbacks in South Africa – Average price and mileage

Pre-owned vehicle platform AutoTrader has once again dug into its wealth of data and compiled a list of the most affordable hatchbacks on the South African used-car market with a registration year of 2020 and above.

Among these are familiar faces including the Hyundai Atos, Renault Kwid, and Suzuki S-Presso; as well as a few models we haven’t seen in showrooms for quite some time, such as the Fiat Panda, Toyota Aygo, and VW Up.

The hatchbacks range from an average price of as low as R75,000 for none other than the Bajaj Qute, and they go up to R178,720 for the popular Toyota Etios.

Apart from affordability, another benefit of buying these cars is, of course, low fuel consumption.

“Generally speaking, hatchbacks are smaller and lighter cars that are designed to nip and zip around town on the whiff of an oil rag,” said George Mienie, AutoTrader CEO.

“The good news is that they are plentiful. AutoTrader data pertaining to the cheapest hatches (with a registration year of 2020 and above) reveals that consumers can acquire a used hatch for as little as R75,000.”
