Mahindra’s KUV100 has been discontinued in South Africa, waving farewell to the Indian brand’s most affordable car which retailed from R172,999 before it ceased to be sold.
In 2021, 91Wheels reported that Mahindra was planning to cease production of its KUV range citing poor sales as the reason. While Mahindra hasn’t made an official announcement, this has now seemingly come to fruition as the compact hatch is no longer listed on the automaker’s local website.
Mahindra has not yet confirmed if it plans to replace the KUV with a different model in the same category. As such, its new entry-level passenger car is the well-known XUV300 which was updated in early 2022 and retails from R259,999.
The KUV is yet another affordable vehicle that saw its demise in 2023, joining a growing list of models from manufacturers such as Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Suzuki, and Toyota.
KUV 100 specifications
Before it was ripped from the market, the KUV100 was available in K2, K2+, K6+, and K8+ equipment grades, with two #Dare specifications on offer which saw dark exterior detailing and “#Dare” stickers included as standard.
Fitments across the KUV range included electric windows, a manual aircon, vinyl upholstery, two airbags, ABS with emergency brake assistance, and steel wheels with plastic covers.
For the K6+, additional nice-to-haves take the form of electric windows, cloth seats, a height-adjustable driver seat, a multifunction steering wheel, speed-sensing door locks, a cooled glove box, remote keyless entry, a 3.5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, and 14-inch alloys.
The K8+ sees an upsized infotainment system measuring 7 inches, rear parking sensors, LED daytime running lights, and unique two-tone 15-inch rims.
Two engines were then on offer throughout the range, the first being a 1.2-litre petrol unit with 61kW and 115Nm on tap, and the second a 1.2-litre turbo-diesel producing 57kW and 190Nm.
Both power units are paired with a five-speed manual gearbox for an average fuel consumption of 5.9l/100km for the petrol and 4.3l/100km for the diesel.
