What the monthly payments are on the new Nissan X-Trail

The new Nissan X-Trail will require a minimum payment of R14,300 per month if purchased on a finance plan, according to a calculation by TopAuto.

The SUV is available in three specifications with prices starting at R649,900 for the entry-level Visia, which increases to R759,900 for the range-topping Acenta Plus.

For this price, buyers receive a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre petrol engine with an output of 135kW and 244Nm, which is paired with a CVT transmission.

The two lower-spec models are front-wheel drive, with 4WD being reserved for the flagship, the latter of which additionally features a limited-slip differential and terrain modes for Snow and Off-Road.

Fuel consumptions range between 7.4l-7.8/100km, depending on the driveline, and the SUV can reach 100km/h in 10.4 seconds and continue to a top speed of 195km/h.

Looking at its spec sheet, the Nissan comes standard with five cloth seats, 17-inch alloys, LED headlights, a multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, keyless entry and start, manual aircon, hill assist, reverse camera, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, driver attention alert, and an 8-inch infotainment screen.

The mid-range Acenta will throw in synthetic leather upholstery, heated and electronically adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and bigger 18-inch alloys.

The Acenta Plus, meanwhile, is noteworthy for offering seven seats instead of five, though this does come at the cost of the boot space decreasing from 585 litres to 485 litres.

The top-end entry also comes with rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights, a 12.3-inch media screen, onboard navigation, a digital driver display, a 360-degree camera, a heads-up display, and 19-inch ally rims.

The monthly payments

We can use the following formula to work out the monthly payments on the new X-Trail.

  • Car price – R649,900/R759,900
  • Payment term – 60 terms (5 years)
  • Interest – 11.25%
  • Deposit – 0%
  • Balloon – No balloon payment
  • Extras – No optional extras

From this, we can determine that the Nissan will require a minimum payment of R14,306 per month for the Visia, or up to R16,712 per month for the Acenta Plus.

Financial experts then recommend that you do not spend more than 20% of your gross monthly salary on vehicle payments.

This means that consumers will need to earn anywhere from R71,530 per month to R83,560 per month to be able to comfortably “afford” the vehicle.

However, it must be noted that this figure does not include insurance, fuel, and maintenance, however, which needs to be factored into your budget.
