Toyota and Suzuki have been making headlines in the last few weeks with the launch of two of the country’s most highly-anticipated cars – the new Toyota Urban Cruiser and Suzuki Grand Vitara.
The similarities don’t stop at their launch dates, however, as the crossovers were co-developed by the two automakers and therefore share the same engine and general architecture.
As a result, the main difference between the two models comes down to their equipment list and, more importantly, their price.
This phenomenon is not unique to the Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser, as the same is true of the Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the old Urban Cruiser which these new models are replacing.
Likewise, the recently-launched Toyota Vitz – the brand’s replacement for its entry-level Agya hatchback – shares the exact same body and features as the Suzuki Celerio yet does not have a matching price tag.
It’s a similar story with the Toyota Starlet and Suzuki Baleno which launched last year, which once again share an identical platform.
One other example of the collaboration between the two carmakers can be found in the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) scene, as the Toyota Rumion and Suzuki Ertiga have more in common than you might think.
