Crossovers competing with the R230,000 Citroen C3

Citroen has launched the new C3 in South Africa at a starting price of R229,000, making it one of the cheapest crossovers in the country.

For now, the C3 is only available in a single “Feel” specification, but the company has plans to introduce higher-grade versions with an automatic gearbox in the near future.

The Feel itself is equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, which is linked to a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine with 61kW and 115Nm. It is front-wheel drive and has an average fuel consumption of 5.6l/100km.

Despite being R76,000 cheaper than the previous C3, the new version is rather generous on features starting with a pair of new “Y-form” LED headlights, 15-inch steel wheels with plastic covers, and a two-tone exterior.

The multi-coloured theme extends to the cabin, where the dashboard features a textured chevron pattern, a 7-inch digital driver display, and a 10-inch infotainment screen.

Other items given to the Citroen include a multifunction steering wheel, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry, central locking, reverse parking sensors, dual airbags, ABS, and manual air conditioning.

Furthermore, each purchase comes with a 5-year/100,000km warranty and a 2-year/30,000km service plan.

Affordable crossovers

Unfortunately, there are not that many crossovers left in South Africa that retail for less than R300,000.

Two of the most prominent SUVs in the segment were the Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Toyota Urban Cruiser, but both of these options were recently replaced, with the new models seeing a significant price jump.

Consequently, there are only four other crossovers in South Africa that fall under the R300,000 mark, these being listed below.
