Anyone looking to take home the recently-updated Alfa Romeo Stelvio on a finance plan will need to pay at least R26,000 per month, according to a calculation by TopAuto.
The SUV is currently available in a single Veloce trim level at a starting price of R1,205,500 , with the higher-spec Quadrifoglio to be added later this year.
For its yearly update, Alfa has given the Stelvio a facelift to better match the styling of its other SUV – the Tonale – which has resulted in a new “Trilobo” grille with two main air ducts, as well as a set of “3+3” adaptive Matrix LED headlights.
The exterior is further complemented by daytime running lights, door welcome lights, rain-sensing wipers, 20-inch alloy wheels, and dark matte exhaust tips.
Inside, you’ll find a set of aluminium sports pedals, a leather multifunction sports steering wheel with paddle shifters, ambient lighting, a wireless charger, electronically-adjustable and heated front sport seats, dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, a telescopic 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an eight-speaker stereo.
It is also available with safety items such as blind-spot monitoring, autonomous emergency braking, driver alert monitoring, lane-keep assist, active cruise control, a rear-view camera, and front and rear parking sensors.
Performance-wise, the Stelvio boasts a near-perfect 50:50 weight distribution and a special “Q4” all-wheel-drive system, which combines with its 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol powerplant and eight-speed automatic gearbox.
As a result, the Alfa produces 206kW and 400Nm, letting it reach 100km/h in just 5.7 seconds despite its sizeable stature. It can average 7.0l/100km on a typical fuel cycle, too.
Each purchase of the new Stelvio also comes with a 5-year/100,000km warranty and maintenance plan as standard.
What you need to earn
We can use the following formula to work out the monthly payments for the new Alfa.
- Car price – R1,205,500
- Payment term – 60 terms (5 years)
- Interest – 11.75%
- Deposit – 0%
- Balloon – No balloon payment
- Extras – No optional extras
From this, we can determine that prospective customers will need to spend at least R25,559 per month to take home the Stelvio on a finance plan.
Financial experts then recommend that you do not spend more than 20% of your gross monthly salary on vehicle payments.
Buyers will therefore need to earn at least R127,795 per month to be able to “afford” the vehicle.
Note that this figure does not account for insurance, fuel, and maintenance, which all need to be factored into your budget.
