The Toyota Hilux recorded one of its best performances in 2023 thus far in June by selling a total of 3,792 units, 1,677 more than the runner-up.
In fact, Toyota-badged autos accounted for over a quarter of the top 20 best-selling cars in the month as they were in first, second (Corolla Cross), seventh (Fortuner), eighth (Starlet), ninth (Hiace), and twentieth (Corolla Quest) positions.
Ford’s Ranger is still a firm favourite among locals, too, coming in at third place, and VW also remains a top choice as its Polo Vivo is in fourth.
The Isuzu D-Max continues to be the third-most-popular bakkie in the country and the fifth best-selling model overall, while in sixth we find the Suzuki Swift.
The compact Nissan NP200 closes out the top 10 and is also the last model to surpass 1,000 sales during the month, at a total of 1,108.
Dipping down to 894 sales, the Hyundai Grand i10 took home eleventh, and hot on its heels with only 12 units less is the VW Polo in twelfth.
The Haval Jolion scooped up the thirteenth position; followed by another Nissan, the Magnite, in fourteenth; and a Chinese crossover again, this time in the form of the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro, in fifteenth.
Sixteenth all the way up to nineteen places were then occupied by the Renault Kwid, Mahindra Pik Up, Kia Sonet, and Renault Kiger, respectively.
In total, the 20 best-selling cars raked in a combined 26,357 sales, thus accounting for 56% of the aggregate 46,810 new vehicles sold in the country last month.
