SUVs competing against the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio

Alfa Romeo has launched the new Stelvio in South Africa at a starting price of R1,205,500.

For now, the SUV is available in a single Veloce specification, with the higher-spec Quadrifoglio model to be added later this year.

The biggest change this time around is a new “Trilobo” grille with two main air ducts, which is flanked on either side by a pair of  “3+3” adaptive Matrix LED headlights.

It also features LED daytime running lights, 20-inch alloy wheels, and dark matte exhaust tips.

Opening the doors reveals a dashboard with a telescopic 12.3-inch digital driver display flanked by an 8-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto playing through an eight-speaker stereo.

There is also a leather multifunction sports steering wheel with paddle shifters, aluminium sports pedals, ambient lighting, a wireless charger, electronically adjustable and heated front sports seats, leather upholstery, and dual-zone climate control.

Additionally, the Italian car is equipped with safety items like a rear-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, autonomous emergency braking, driver alert monitoring, lane-keep assist, and active cruise control.

Powering the Veloce is a 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine that links to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and “Q4” all-wheel-drive system.

This gives it a power cap of 206kW and 400Nm, consequently, the Alfa can sprint from 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 230km/h.
