South Africans looking to own the new Toyota Urban Cruiser will need to spend at least R1,300 per month on insurance, according to research done by TopAuto.
The crossover is available in three specifications, with prices starting at R329,400 for the entry-level model and up to R369,900 for the range-topping unit.
They are all equipped with a 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine which has an output of 77kW and 138Nm.
The Cruiser is front-wheel drive with two gearboxes, either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic, which both provide a combined fuel consumption of 6.1l/100km.
The base XS model is fitted with 17-inch steel rims, bi-halogen headlights, LED daytime running lights, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, automatic air conditioning, keyless entry and start, fabric seats, a multifunction steering wheel, ABS, two speakers, and a 7-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The pricier XR units come with cruise control, roof rails, alloy wheels, and two more speakers for a total of four.
Insurance costs
We used Hippo’s car insurance quote tool to find out what the monthly premiums on the new Toyota would be.
The calculations were based on an individual living in a metropolitan area like Johannesburg with no claims history who would be able to store their car in a locked garage at night.
Below, you’ll find the nine insurance quotes for the cheapest and most expensive entries in the Urban Cruiser line-up, as provided by Hippo:
