Best-selling bakkies in South Africa

The Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and Isuzu D-Max, in that order, occupied the podium in July’s best-selling bakkie ranks, the Hilux selling a total of 2,982 units, the Ranger 2,089 units, and the D-Max 1,542 units.

Collectively, the three top-selling bakkies accounted for 15% of the 43,389 new vehicles sold in South Africa during the month, illustrating the levels of popularity this practical body style enjoys in the country.

Exactly 501 units away from the Isuzu, the Nissan NP200 came in fourth place with a performance of 1,041 sales, with the Mahindra Pik Up aptly picking up fifth place by moving 662 units.

In the sixth position was GWM’s popular P-Series with 642 examples rolling out of dealerships, while the Nissan Navara managed seventh and saw a sharp drop to 375 sales.

Another Toyota, the Land Cruiser 79, took home eighth place with the sale of 312 models, and ninth was awarded to VW’s Amarok scoring 250 transactions.

The GWM Steed 5 closes out the top 10 and is also the last bakkie to eclipse 100 sales with a total of 143.

The 11th to 16th positions were then taken up by the Mitsubishi Triton, JAC T-Series (T6+T8), Mahindra Bolero, Jeep Gladiator, Mazda BT-50, and Peugeot Landtrek – with the Triton amassing 74 customers and the Landtrek six, while the rest fell somewhere in between.

In total, the 17 new bakkies on the market made away with 10,215 sales, equating to a share of 24% in the total new-vehicle sales for July.
