Enthusiasts lucky enough to get their hands on the new Toyota GR Corolla will need to spend at least R2,272 per month on insurance, according to research done by TopAuto.
The Toyota is available in two trim levels – Core and Circuit – with a starting price of R841,000 and R902,400 respectively.
A true hot hatch, the new GR has 221kW and 370Nm at its disposal courtesy of a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine, which links to a GR-Four all-wheel drive system via a six-speed manual gearbox.
This lets the sports car sprint to 100km/h in around 5.0 seconds, though this is only according to unofficial testing as Toyota has yet to reveal its true acceleration potential, and achieve a top speed of 230km/h.
Equipment on the Corolla includes red aluminium brake calipers, automatic LED headlights and daytime-running lights, 18-inch ENKEI cast-alloy rims, heated bucket seats, keyless entry and start, dual-zone climate control, a 12.3-inch driver display, and a 7.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
It also comes with leather and suede upholstery, aluminium pedals, adaptive cruise control, steering and lane-keep assist, front and rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera.
