Proton has launched the new X90 in South Africa, a mild-hybrid SUV with space for seven passengers that retails between R559,900 and R679,900, depending on which one of the four models you go for.
Regardless of the version chosen, buyers can expect a 1.5-litre, turbocharged petrol engine which is paired with a 48V electrical system, the benefits of which are a power output of 140kW and 300Nm, and an average fuel consumption of 6.8l/100km.
The SUV also features three driving modes comprising Sport, Eco, and Comfort, and a seven-speed automatic gearbox that connects to the front wheels.
As the new flagship of the carmaker’s local range, the X90 comes with a generous amount of standard equipment including 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and daytime running lights, LED fog lamps, keyless entry and start, automatic dual-zone climate control, a leather multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, fabric seats, and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with voice commands, Bluetooth, six speakers, and smartphone screen mirroring.
Upgrading to a higher-spec trims will then add things like rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights, larger 19-inch alloys, a 360-degree camera system, leather upholstery, ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a wireless charger.
It will also grant access to the brand’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) 2, which comprises autonomous emergency braking, rear collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, lane centering control, emergency lane keep assist, traffic sign information, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and auto park assist.
