Best-selling bakkies in South Africa

August was a great month for bakkie sales in South Africa, with many of the fan-favourites improving on their numbers from the month before

The top spot was once again taken by the Toyota Hilux, which went up from 2,982 sales in July to 3,309 units in August, making it not just the most popular bakkie in the country, but also the best-selling vehicle overall, beating out popular entries like the VW Polo Vivo.

Ford was another carmaker to have a good month, with its Ranger claiming second place on the high-rider ladder with 2,367 units purchased.

Isuzu was then able to round off the top three positions with its reliable D-Max sending 1,632 units off the showroom floor.

Nissan was the last vehicle to break four digits in August thanks to its half-tonne NP200, which sold 1,064 units, and Mahindra was the last brand to crack the top five with its Pik Up moving 701 units.

In total, the top five best-performing bakkies racked up 9,073 sales, equivalent to 19.8% of the 45,679 vehicles purchased in South Africa last month.

Other models to make it into the top 10 included the GMW P-Series, Nissan Navara, Toyota Land Cruiser, VW Amarok, and GWM Steed.
