JAC has updated its T8 series in South Africa, adding a significant amount of new features to the double cab.
The bakkie is now available in 4×2 and 4×4 specifications at a starting price of R449,900 and R499,900, respectively.
It runs on a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel powerplant with 104kW and 320Nm – enough to let it tow 2,000kg and carry 900kg in the back. This powertrain is then paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, achieving a combined fuel consumption of 7.8l/100km.
Also included as standard on the JAC is a set of xenon headlights, daytime running lights, and fog lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a black off-road style bar, rear step bumper, and side steps.
Inside, there is a multifunction steering wheel, manual aircon, a sunroof, electric windows, leather seats, an electric driver seat, USB and 12V power sockets, and a 9-inch media system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The T8 also comes with ABS, cruise control, hill assist, a tyre-pressure monitoring system,, rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera.
Insurance costs
We used Hippo’s car insurance quote tool to find out what the monthly insurance premiums on the new JAC would be.
The calculations were based on an individual living in a metropolitan area like Johannesburg with no claims history who would be able to store their car in a locked garage at night.
Below, you’ll find nine insurance quotes for the T8’s RWD and 4WD options, as provided by Hippo:
