It was a great month for SUV sales in South Africa this September, with the most popular models tallying hundreds of sales.
While they generally do not bring in the same numbers as their smaller and more affordable crossover counterparts, SUVs are nonetheless a highly sought-after class of vehicle, as evidenced by the performance of favourites like the Toyota Fortuner, which moved nearly 900 units last month.
This makes it the country’s most-picked SUV by a wide margin, as the second best-seller was the Haval H6 with 453 units.
This was followed by the VW Tiguan in third place with 246 units, and the locally-made BMW X3 with 222 units.
Toyota was then able to claim a second spot in the top five thanks to the Land Cruiser 300, which moved 219 units.
The other models to make it into the top 10 included the Ford Everest, Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, Land Rover Defender, BMW X5, and Hyundai Tucson.
Toyota also had another two vehicles break into the top 15 – the Rav4 and the Prado – making it the clear favourite for SUVs in South Africa.
