South Africans looking to pick up the new Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max will need to spend at least R2,100 per month on insurance, according to research done by TopAuto.
The Max is the newest vehicle in Chery’s arsenal, taking the flagship position of the Tiggo 7 Pro line-up with versions priced from R529,900 to R609,900.
Unlike the regular models, which use a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, the Max is powered by a 1.6-litre, turbocharged plant which grants access to 145kW and 290Nm.
This links to a seven-speed gearbox and, for the first time on a Chery, either a front-wheel-drive or a new all-wheel-drive layout.
Unique items to the Max include a model-exclusive grille, new 3D “Angel Wing” LED headlights, 18-inch alloy rims, and redesigned air intakes, as well as a 24.6-inch curved dual display inside the cabin with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Depending on the model selected, you’ll also get an eight-speaker Sony stereo, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, electric front leather Sports seats, an electric tailgate, a 360-degree camera system, a wireless phone charger, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, autonomous emergency braking, forward and rear-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, and a driver monitoring system.
Each purchase includes a 5-year/150,000km general warranty, a 10-year/1-million kilometre engine warranty, and a 5-year/60,000km service plan.
Insurance costs
We used Hippo’s car insurance quote tool to find out what the monthly premiums on the new Chery would be.
The calculations were based on an individual living in a metropolitan area like Johannesburg with no claims history who would be able to store their car in a locked garage at night.
Unfortunately, Hippo was only able to provide quotes for the base Distinction trim, and not the range-topping Executive units, so expect the insurance rates to be higher if you’re gunning for those models.
The site was able to provide six quotes for the Tiggo 7 Pro Max, which were as follows:
Insurer | Monthly payments |
---|---|
King Price | R2,045.59 |
Budget | R2,698.1 |
Auto & General | R2,811.3 |
1st for Women | R2,858.21 |
Dial Direct | R2,886.1 |
Virseker | R3,127.3 |
Note that car insurance is heavily dependent on factors like your age, location, and claims history, meaning your premiums could be higher or lower than this depending on your circumstances and chosen excess.
Hippo also provided the excess for each insurer, which are as follows:
Insurer | Excess claim |
---|---|
King Price | R6,500 |
1st for Women | R11,600 |
Auto & General | R11,600 |
Dial Direct | R11,600 |
Virseker | R11,600 |
Budget | R11,900 |
An excess is the amount that you are required to pay as a client when you are involved in a car accident and make a claim to your insurer. The higher the excess you choose, the lower your monthly insurance payment generally is.
