Best-selling bakkies in South Africa

The Toyota Hilux took the crown as South Africa’s favourite bakkie in November selling 3,073 units, besting the Ford Ranger in second place by a substantial 839 units.

As usual, the Isuzu D-Max completed the podium in third, driving away at the end of the month with a tally of 1,662 sales, and the Nissan NP200 grabbed fourth with 1,152 models moved, being the last vehicle to get over 1,000 sales.

Fifth place was then awarded to the Mahindra Pik Up which managed 606 transactions, sixth went to the Nissan Navara with its 402 purchases, and in seventh sat the VW Amarok which saw 367 new customers taking one home.

Getting more competitive the further down the ranks we go, the GWM P-Series narrowly clinched the eighth position ahead of the Toyota Land Cruiser 79, with the former selling 284 units and the latter a close 260 units.

As many as 105 buyers pulled the trigger on the GWM Steed 5 in November giving it the coveted 10th spot, and 11th was held by JAC’s T-Series range that includes the T6, T8, and new T9, which altogether brought in 69 sales. JAC does not provide a detailed breakdown of the individual model sales, unfortunately.

Continuing in 12th, the Peugeot Landtrek saw 45 units roll through dealership doors, and the Mitsubishi Triton in 13th a slightly lower 41 units.

Closing out the best-sellers ranks were the Mahindra Bolero with 33 sales in 14th, the Mazda BT-50 with seven sales in 15th, and the Jeep Gladiator with four sales in 16th.

Overall, bakkies racked up a total of 10,344 purchases in South Africa during November, accounting for approximately 23% of all the new vehicles sold.
