Toyota has been South Africa’s best-selling car brand for months on end, consistently selling more than 10,000 vehicles for every 30 days that go by.
A big part of this success can be attributed to the variety of the carmaker’s local catalogue, which has a model for just about every market segment with many of these even being built right here in South Africa.
The top pick for the average motorist is of course the reliable Hilux bakkie, which sold 3,073 units in November 2023, making it not just the most popular 4×4 in the country but also the best-selling vehicle overall.
This was followed by the Corolla Cross crossover with 1,766 units, making it both the second-most popular Toyota as well as the second-most-picked passenger car in the country after the VW Polo Vivo.
Third place is taken by the Hiace minibus which is a familiar site on our roads, clocking in at 1,501 units, while fourth place is occupied by the Starlet hatchback with 1,176 units, making it the last Toyota to clear 1,000 sales.
Sitting in fifth place is the affordable Vitz with 855 sales, putting it ahead of the next entry, the Fortuner SUV with its 689 purchases.
Other vehicles to make it into the top 10 include the Corolla Quest sedan, the Urban Cruiser crossover, the Rumion MPV, and the Land Cruiser 79 bakkie.
