South Africa has had an amazing year for bakkies, with the launch of exciting new models like the Ford Ranger Raptor, the second-generation VW Amarok, the Isuzu D-Max X-Rider, the flagship JAC T9 and GWM P-Series LTD, and limited-edition versions of the Mitsubishi Triton and Toyota Hilux.
The only thing better than this would, of course, be even more new 4x4s in store for Mzansi motorists, and that’s exactly what’s happening in 2024.
There are at least seven different models pegged for a local introduction in 2024, not least are two new Ford Ranger variants with the Tremor and Platinum, and the Blue Oval has also confirmed that it will be producing the plug-in hybrid Ranger starting in late 2024, but at present, the semi-electric bakkie is not yet confirmed for a South African introduction.
On a similar note, the JAC T9 may have launched this year with a turbocharged diesel engine, but it is expected to receive both a plug-in hybrid and a battery-electric variant come 2024.
Mitsubishi’s next-gen Triton should make landfall in the coming months, too, as should the facelifted Jeep Gladiator for those who favour its modular body design.
There are also a number of bakkies that could still arrive in 2024 but have not been given a release date, such as the facelifted Isuzu D-Max, the Toyota Hilux Champ, and the new Nissan Navara, which shares a platform with the upcoming Mitsubishi.
Lots to look forward to
These are all of the bakkies that have been confirmed by their manufacturers to be arriving in South Africa in 2024, bearing in mind that a model could still have its release pushed back for any number of reasons.
