Suzuki is one of South Africa’s most popular car brands, owing to its extensive library of vehicles that cater to the more affordable end of the market.
While car prices are rising at an alarming rate, Suzuki has managed to stay relatively budget-friendly with the majority of its vehicles, a trend that has not stopped in 2023.
The Japanese automaker debuted four new models for the local market this year, including the new Grand Vitara, the spiritual successor to the brand’s highly-acclaimed Vitara Brezza which was discontinued this year.
The Grand Vitara also introduced the automaker’s first hybrid in the country with a 1.5-litre petrol engine hooked up to a 12V mild-hybrid system.
However, while the Grand may be the Brezza’s spiritual successor, its price is substantially higher going into the R300,000 range.
For this reason, Suzuki gave us the new Fronx, a crossover that uses the Baleno hatchback as its base, and therefore commands a price tag that still falls in the R200,000 bracket.
Aside from this, the carmaker launched the new XL6, a more premium MPV than the Ertiga that still manages to be one of the most affordable cars in South Africa to offer more than the standard five seats.
Finally, there was the long-awaited Jimny five-door, giving the classic 4×4 a much-needed growth spurt that affords a whole new layer of practicality while retaining the spirit of the original.
