R300,000 crossovers competing against the new special-edition Nissan Magnite

Nissan has launched another entry in its popular Magnite series called the Kuro, which starts at R323,200.

The Kuro is a special-edition version of the crossover that features a much darker appearance – a fitting appearance given that its name means ‘black’ in Japanese.

This includes gunmetal black 16-inch alloy wheels, unique Kuro badges, a piano-black grille, black resin skid plates, and a black tailgate, with a splash of colour coming from the red brake calipers.

It’s a similar story inside, as there are black finishes on the dashboard, gearstick, aircon vents, and steering wheel, with the armrests getting a dark grey surface while the seats have black synthetic leather upholstery with diamond stitching.

The rest of the Kuro’s equipment is identical to the mid-range Magnite Acenta upon which it is based, granting it a 7.0-inch driver display, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED daytime running lights, keyless entry and start, a wireless charger, a leather multifunction steering wheel, automatic air conditioning, hill assist, rear parking sensors, ABS, traction control, a reverse camera, and two airbags.

The Magnite is powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 74kW and 160Nm, and it is offered with both a five-speed manual or a CVT transmission, though you’ll need to pay R351,800 for the latter.

The manual nets a fuel consumption return of 5.3l/100km, while the CVT uses 6.0l/100km.

Each purchase comes with a 6-year/150,000km warranty and a 3-year/30,000km service plan.
