R1-million Mazda CX-60 on the way to South Africa – The luxurious competition it will face
The new Mazda CX-60 Takumi is launching in South Africa in February positioned at the helm of the automaker’s local catalogue.
At launch, the Takumi will retail for R1,049,200 – over R200,000 more expensive than the previous flagship CX-60 Individual – a result of its exclusive appointments and more powerful semi-electrified architecture.
Even at seven figures, the new CX-60 boasts an impressive spec sheet that is sure to put many of its rivals to shame.
It comes with a 12.3-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, a windshield heads-up display (HUD), a 12-speaker Bose stereo, dual-zone climate control, a wireless charger, leather upholstery, electric front seats with ventilation, reclining rear seats, an electrically-adjustable steering column, a panoramic sunroof, a hands-free tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, and keyless entry and start.
Passengers are also well looked after with the fitment of an assortment of safety features, including hill-hold assist and descent control, adaptive LED headlights, driver attention alert, radar cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist with lane-departure warnings, advanced smart city braking assist, distance and speed alert, front and rear cross-traffic alert, 360-degree cameras, and front, side, and rear radar.
Another unique attribute of the Mazda is the Personalisation System which uses in-car cameras to detect a driver’s eye placement and automatically adjust the seat, steering wheel, HUD, and wing mirrors to the ideal positioning – only requiring the driver to enter their height while the car takes care of the rest.
Propelling the Mazda is a 3.3-litre, turbocharged diesel engine paired with a small electric motor for a total output of 187kW and 550Nm, which is fed to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Average fuel consumption for the configuration is pegged at an economical 4.9l/100km, with the generous torque allowing the CX-60 to sprint from 0-100km/h in 7.3 seconds on its way to a top speed of 219km/h.
Standing at 4,745mm long, 1,890mm wide, and 1,686mm tall, the Mazda also provides a boot capacity of 570 litres.
