Most affordable double cabs from every brand in South Africa

The most affordable double cab in South Africa is the JAC T6, which has a starting price of R354,900.

There are currently 13 different brands in the country with at least one five-seater bakkie to choose from, ranging from spartan workhorses to high-end off-roaders.

China and India are doing the most to cater to the price-conscious consumer, with JAC’s high-rider being joined by the GWM Steed and Mahindra’s Pik Up which are all still in the R300,000-R400,000 bracket.

Many other bakkies are in a much closer price group, with the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara, and Mitsubishi Triton all starting within R20,000 of one another, but still over half a million, whereas the VW Amarok finds itself approximately R90,000 further up the chain than its Ranger sibling.

Isuzu on the other hand, decided to continue producing its previous-gen D-Max in a deliberate effort to provide a more budget-friendly alternative to its newer models.

Towards the higher end are the Peugeot Landtrek and Mazda BT-50, and the list is capped off with the Jeep Gladiator and Ineos Quartermaster – exclusive vehicles that fall well above the R1-million mark in South Africa.
