New HAVAL H6 PHEV launched in South Africa with Hi4 hybrid all-wheel-drive technology

GWM has expanded its electrified line-up in South Africa with the launch of the new HAVAL H6 PHEV, a plug-in hybrid SUV that combines electric efficiency, long-distance usability, and intelligent all-wheel-drive performance in a premium family package.

The arrival of the HAVAL H6 PHEV marks an important step in GWM’s local electrification strategy.

Positioned within the established H6 range, the new model builds on the practicality and family-focused appeal that have made the H6 one of South Africa’s most recognisable SUVs, while introducing a more advanced plug-in hybrid powertrain and a new level of performance.

At the heart of the vehicle is GWM’s Hi4 hybrid drivetrain, which pairs a turbocharged petrol engine with two electric motors to create an intelligent all-wheel-drive configuration.

In flagship form, the system delivers 268kW and 760Nm, while the 2WD derivative offers 240kW and 540Nm.

This setup is designed to optimise traction, efficiency, and responsiveness across a range of driving conditions, giving the H6 PHEV genuine dual-purpose ability as both an urban commuter and a long-distance SUV.

A major part of its appeal is flexibility. The HAVAL H6 PHEV can travel up to 106km on electric power alone (NEDC), allowing many daily trips to be completed without using the petrol engine.

When both power sources work together, total driving range exceeds 1,000km, offering the kind of reassurance many South African motorists still want from an electrified vehicle.

Inside, the H6 PHEV leans into technology and comfort. The cabin features GWM’s latest Coffee OS, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and a nine-speaker audio system.

Electrically adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation, a heated multifunction steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and rear-seat convenience features further strengthen its premium positioning.

Safety is another strong talking point, with features including a 540-degree panoramic camera system, forward collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, lane assistance systems, driver fatigue monitoring, electronic stability control, multiple airbags, run-flat tyres, and a full-colour head-up display.

The range is offered exclusively in Ultra Luxury specification, priced at R699,900 for the 2WD and R749,900 for the 4×4, and backed by a 7-year/200,000km warranty, 7-year/75,000km service plan, and 8-year/150,000km high-voltage battery warranty.
