New Mercedes-AMG SL 63 launched in South Africa – Pricing

Mercedes-Benz has launched the new AMG SL 63 in South Africa, bringing this classic high-performance luxury range back to the local market.

A spiritual successor to the iconic 300 SL racing sports car first launched in 1952, the new version of the SL features a modern 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine while paying homage to its original roots with a classic soft-top roof and a sporty design.

The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 is priced at R3,943,156 in South Africa, which includes a 5-year/100,000km PremiumDrive Comfort Care Service and Maintenance Plan.

Design

Inside, you will not mistake this vehicle for its 72-year-old inspiration, as Mercedes-Benz has complemented the classic tradition of the original 300 SL Roadster with a slew of high-end modern trimmings to deliver a totally luxurious experience.

This combination of classic and modern stylings is referred to by Mercedes-Benz as “hyperanalogue.”

Among the many luxurious finishes that you would expect from such a high-end AMG vehicle are the cutting-edge MBUX infotainment system and electrically-adjustable AMG sports seats.

Performance

Under the hood, the Mercedes-Benz AMG SL 63’s 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine is assembled purely by hand according to the company’s “One Man, One Engine” principle.

The SL 63 4MATIC+ model delivers 430kW of power and a maximum torque of 800Nm over a rev range from 2,500 to 4,500rpm.

Accelerating from 0-100km takes 3.6 seconds, while the vehicle’s top speed is 315km/h.

The vehicle uses an AMG Speedshift 9G transmission specially adapted for the new roadster.

Furthermore, for the first time ever, the SL is available with a four-wheel drive system, while active rear-axle steering is also equipped as standard.
