Entry-level Land Rover SUV updated for South Africa – Pricing and features

Land Rover has updated the Discovery Sport for South Africa, launching four new models across two trim levels.
The revised selection now includes the Landmark and Metropolitan specifications, which are available with either a diesel or petrol hybrid engine.
The Discovery Sport is positioned as the entry-level model of the Land Rover family, with prices starting at R1,362,900.
Engines
The Landmark and the Metropolitan can either be had with the D200 or P300e powertrain.
The D200 takes the form of a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which generates a total of 147kW and 430Nm.
This is paired with a nine-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system, resulting in an average fuel consumption of 6.1l/100km.
The D200 is powerful enough to let the SUV accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in a reasonably brisk 8.6 seconds before capping out at a top speed of 209km/h.
As for the P300e, it features a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine supported by an electric motor.
The result is a combined output of 227kW and 540Nm, which reduces the 0-100km/h time from 8.6 to 6.6 seconds.
It has the same top speed of 209km/h, though its speed is limited to 140km/h in electric mode.
On that note, the hybrid version is fitted with a 14.9kWh battery, which affords an electric driving range of 61km.
Assuming owners rely on the battery for most of their day to day trips, the Discovery will manage an average fuel consumption of 2.1l/100km.
The P300e also uses an all-wheel-drive system, but swaps out the nine-speed gearbox for an eight-speed one.
Features

The new Landmark units can be identified by a unique Mountain Range logo that hasn’t been seen since the original 1989 Discovery Sport.
This logo can be found on the aluminium treadplates, and on the ground at night thanks to a set of puddle lamps that activate when unlocking the vehicle.
This version of the SUV also features sliding and reclining seats for the second row, and a panoramic sunroof that allows more light into the cabin for a greater sense of space.
“Click & Go” media holders have been installed to keep the rear occupants entertained, and there’s a new surround-view camera for better spatial awareness.
As for the flagship Metropolitan, you can expect a bespoke Atlas Silver Discovery script on the bonnet and tailgate, and an Indus Silver finish for the front and rear undershield.
The front grille has a new silver foil insert, and the treadplates have a Metropolitan engraving.
The exterior’s look is then rounded out with a set of 20-inch diamond-turned alloy wheels, which can optionally be customized with a gloss black finish.
Inside, the seats are covered in Windsor leather, and the front chairs have 14-way electronic adjustability with heating and cooling functions.
It also comes with a 650W 14-speaker Meridian Surround Sound System with a dual-channel subwoofer, a Clearsight Rear View Mirror, and a Cabin Purification Plus feature for the automatic climate control.
Across both models, you can still expect the comforts standard on other Land Rover products, such as the Pivi Pro infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and onboard navigation.
There’s also a number of optional accessory packs that buyers can choose from, such as a Beach Days pack with a refrigerated centre console storage unit and tailored sunshades.
Altnernatively, there’s a Snow Days pack that adds a Ski and Snowboard Carrier, rubber floor mats, and a traction system to improve the car’s grip in slippery conditions.
