New limited-edition Opel Corsa for South Africa – Pricing revealed

Opel has pulled the covers off a new, limited edition version of the Corsa known as the Irmscher Edition.

The Irmscher is an ultra-exclusive version of the iconic hatchback that adds several racing-themed elements to the flagship GS Line.

In South Africa, this new model will be limited to just 40 units with prices starting at R534,900, meaning it comes at a R65,400 premium over the GS Line.

Features

The Irmscher Edition draws inspiration from Opel’s legacy of motorsport, adding new cosmetics meant to give the car a more aggressive appearance.

This includes a new front spoiler lip, side skirts, a rear roof spoiler, a rear diffuser, and a rear spoiler.

It also comes with bespoke 18-inch alloy rims paired with 225/40R18 tyres, and a number of model-exclusive Irmscher badges.

The fundamental performance aspects of the hatchback are unchanged; however the company has lowered the suspension by 30mm to provide better handling and stability.

Opel also stated that the Corsa will be available in three colours with a contrasting black roof, though it did not say which colours.

The rest of the package is identical to what you’ll find on the range-topping GS Line, which means buyers can expect light-sensing LED headlights and daytime running lights, chrome accents, rain-sensing wipers and auto-folding side mirrors.

It also comes with automatic climate control, partial leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, a leather multifunction steering wheel, six speakers, a 7-inch digital driver display, and a 10-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

On top of this, the Opel features driver assistance functions like cruise control, driver attention monitoring, hill assist, lane-keep assist, front pedestrian detection, tyre-pressure monitoring, blind spot detection, automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera.

Engine

The limited-edition Corsa uses the same 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine as the rest of the series, giving it access to 96kW and 230Nm.

It also features a six-speed automatic gearbox, which delivers power to the front wheels.

The result is a reasonably brisk 0-100km/h time of 8.7 seconds, and a top speed of 208km/h.

Fuel consumption, meanwhile, is pegged at 6.3l/100km.

The South African pricing for the updated Opel Corsa series is as follows:
