New Land Rover Defender Trophy Edition launched in South Africa – Pricing

Land Rover has added a new model to the Defender series inspired by the Trophy and Challenge events of the past.

Fittingly, the new model is called the Trophy Edition, and is based on the 110 D350 specification.

Prices for the Trophy Edition start at R2,085,600, placing it towards the middle of the Defender roster.

Features

The Defender 110 Trophy Edition is exclusively available in one of two colours meant to capture the model’s heritage – Deep Sandglow Yellow or Keswick Green.

Deep Sandglow Yellow is a modern interpretation of a colour synonymous with Defenders used on international Trophy-style events, while Keswick Green celebrates rural exploration in Defender’s UK homeland, according to the automaker.

Both colours can be finished with an optional Matte film to protect the bodywork off the beaten track.

It also features a contrasting gloss black finish on the bonnet, lower bodyside, brake calipers, and rear recovery eyes.

Trophy decals can be found on the bonnet and C-pillar, and there’s an exclusive badge on the back.

The treadplates have illuminated Trophy graphics, and the seats are decked out in Ebony Windsor leather.

The exposed cross car beam has the same colour finish as the exterior, as well as unique laser-engraved endcaps with Trophy branding.

In terms of equipment, the special-edition model comes standard with accessories such as a roof rack, a black deployable ladder, a gloss black side-mounted gear carrier, front and rear mud flaps, and a raised air intake for dust filtration.

Engine

The Trophy Edition is based on the D350, which means it is fitted with a 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine good for 257kW and 700Nm.

It also features an eight-speed automatic gearbox, which links to a four-wheel-drive system.

All of these factors combine to give the SUV an average fuel consumption of 8.5l/100km on a combined cycle.
