Toyota Urban Cruiser updated for South Africa – Pricing

Toyota has updated the Urban Cruiser, adding several new standard features across its XS and XR trim levels.

“Designed to deliver more value, comfort, and functionality, these updates are now standard across both the XS and XR variants, reinforcing Toyota’s commitment to offering feature-rich vehicles at a competitive price,” said the manufacturer.

The model selection is unchanged with a total of three variants, and prices start at R342,700.

New features

Starting with the universal additions, both the XS and XR grades have received a new rear wiper for improved visibility.

The infotainment screen’s size has been increased from 7.0 to 9.0 inches, and the old urethane steering wheel has been upgraded to a more premium leather finish for improved tactile quality.

Toyota has also added dual rear USB Type C ports, allowing occupants in the back to charge their devices.

Moving on to the model-specific enhancements, the entry-level XS trim has been given a new luggage shelf with strings, greatly improving the utility of the boot space.

The 17-inch steel wheels have also been upgraded to alloy rims, enhancing the vehicle’s visual appeal and road presence.

As for the range-topping XR, Toyota has improved the headlights by replacing the halogen bulbs with LEDs, which provide superior nighttime illumination and modernize the appearance of the crossover.

Additionally, the Urban Cruiser now features Automatic Light Control and a Follow Me Home function.

This is meant to improve user safety by keeping the headlights on temporarily after the car is switched off, allowing persons to scan their surroundings before proceeding.

Engine

The Urban Cruiser is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.

This produces a total of 77kW and 138Nm, which makes contact with the tarmac via the front wheels.

Buyers have a choice of a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic gearbox, and both versions net a fuel consumption return of 6.1l/100km.

The South African pricing for the updated Toyota Urban Cruiser is as follows:

This includes a 3-year/100,000km warranty and a 4-year/60,000km service plan.
