New Tata Punch goes on sale in South Africa – Pricing and features

Tata Motors is continuing the rollout of its new line of passenger cars with the new Punch.

The Punch is an small crossover positioned as the second cheapest model in Tata’s lineup after the Tiago hatchback.

It is available in five specifications, and prices start at R244,900.

Engine

The Punch gets its power from a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine.

This produces a total of 65kW and 115Nm, which is transmitted to the front wheels.

Buyers have a choice of either a five-speed manual or a five-speed automated manual transmission (AMT), depending on the model.

The crossover also features an idle Stop/Start function, which helps it achieve an average fuel consumption of 5.3l/100km.

Features

Tata’s new car is 3,827mm long, 1,615mm tall, and 1,742mm wide, with a boot that can fit up to 366 litres of luggage.

The base trim level – the Adventure – comes standard with 15-inch steel wheels, a multifunction steering wheel, fabric seats, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, manual air conditioning with rear vents, four speakers, a 4-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 7-inch infotainment screen.

It also features ABS, dual airbags, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera.

The next grade, the Adventure + S, will throw in automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a shark fin antenna, roof rails, a sunroof, keyless entry and start, a front armrest, USB Type A and Type C ports, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two more speakers, and What3Words onboard navigation.

At the top of the range is the Creative +, which adds 16-inch alloy rims, LED daytime running lights, a larger 10.5-inch floating touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, automatic climate control, cruise control, a rear armrest, rear USB ports, a wireless charging pad, and a cooled glovebox.
