You can now buy a Harley-Davidson bakkie in South Africa

You can now buy a selection of high-performance American bakkies in South Africa.

AutoGroup International recently announced that it has expanded its catalogue of vehicles to include 25 different pickup trucks, including bespoke models from iconic brands like Fox, Shelby, and Harley-Davidson.

For those who are not aware, AutoGroup is a company that specializes in converting American vehicles to right-hand-drive to be sold in markets where they are normally unavailable.

Earlier this year, AutoGroup announced that it had signed a partnership agreement with Rospa International, a company based in Durban, to import these vehicles to South Africa.

Since the initial announcement, the conversion specialist has greenlit several cars for our market, including the Ford F-250, Toyota Tundra, and Toyota Sequoia.

This list has just been expanded, however, as AutoGroup has revealed that more than 20 new specialty bakkies are now available to order in right-hand-drive countries like Australia and South Africa.

“This is a massive milestone for true enthusiasts everywhere. Autogroup’s scale and technical leadership, backed by factory support, give buyers unprecedented access to America’s best trucks—delivered with the same passion and precision found in OEM programs,” said Rob Hill, CEO at Autogroup International.

The company highlighted four flagship models of particular interest: the Fox Factory Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the Shelby Ford F-150 Super Snake, the Harley-Davidson Ford F-250, and the Black Widow GMC Sierra 1500.

All of these are popular American pickup trucks that have received numerous modifications by their namesake brands, appealing to motoring enthusiasts who want something above and beyond a stock pickup.

Unfortunately, AutoGroup has not disclosed the pricing for any of these cars, though you can easily expect to pay seven figures for each of them.

Prices for these trucks can fetch up to $80,000 (R1.3 million) in their home market, and this is before you factor in costs like import duties and the right-hand drive conversion.

Black Widow GMC Sierra 1500

Black Widow is an American company that specializing in lifting popular trucks to improve their off-road capabilities, all while adding various cosmetics and enhanced features.

One model that has received this attention is the GMC 1500, a full-size American pickup that’s considerably larger than something like the Ford Ranger or Toyota Hilux.

It is fitted with an enormous 6.2-litre V8 petrol engine, which generates 313kW and 623Nm, which lets it tow up to 6,000kg.

Thanks to the Black Widow treatment, the high-rider has lifted suspension with 20-inch wheels, custom badges, and a bespoke interior with black leather seats, red ambient lighting, and Black Widow decals.

Fox Factory Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Fox is a name will undoubtedly be familiar to off-roading fans in South Africa, as you can find their work on high-end bakkies like the Ford Ranger Raptor.

The bespoke Silverado features a monstrous supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine that produces 521kW, though unfortunately the company hasn’t provided an official torque stat.

It can tow up to 6,000kg, and is decked out with all manner of Fox Factory enhancements.

It has lifted suspension, 37-inch all terrain tyres, Fox 3.2 Dual Live Valve coilovers, carbon fibre styling elements, and a revamped interior with sports seats and new controls for the suspension and vehicle telemetry.

Harley-Davidson Ford F-250

Harley-Davidson needs no introduction, as it is the quintessential example of ‘Murica’ auto design.

The Ford F-250 is a larger, more heavy-duty bakkie than the Ranger we are all used to, as it comes with a 6.7-litre V8 turbo-diesel powertrain that puts out a staggering 354kW and 1,600Nm, letting it tow 6,350kg.

The motorcycle company has fitted the pickup with BF Goodrich all-terrain tyres, Fox shocks, and a new body kit with a custom grille, badges, alloy rims, orange exterior accents, and branded black leather sports seats with orange stitching.

Shelby Ford F-150 Super Snake

Last but not least is the Shelby Super Snake.

Shelby, of course, refers to the legendary company responsible for the even more exclusive versions of the iconic Ford Mustang muscle car.

With that in mind, it comes as little surprise that the Shelby F-150 rides lower than the other models on the list and is undoubtedly the most tuned for performance.

“The right hand drive Shelby Super Snake F-150 is built for those who crave muscle car performance in a bold pickup design,” said AutoGroup.

Under the hood is a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 petrol block that can summon 577kW and 928Nm, letting it sprint to 100km/h in a blistering 3.5 seconds.

It has a unique body kit with a Shelby grille and racing stripes, and the interior features leather seats with Shelby logos.
