Cheaper Chery Tiggo Cross launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Chery has officially launched a new entry-level model for the Tiggo Cross known as the Million Edition.

The new model was, presumably, commissioned to celebrate the company’s export of its 1-millionth Tiggo 4 Pro earlier this year (bearing in mind that the Cross is actually a facelifted version of the Tiggo 4).

The Million Edition is priced at R359,900, making it R40,000 cheaper than the previous base model – the Comfort.

Features

Since the Million Edition is priced lower than the Comfort, it’s understandable that the spec sheet has shaved off a few items to reach its target.

Based on what we could find on Chery’s website, the cheaper model appears to lose out on the leather steering wheel, electronically adjustable side mirrors, ambient cabin lighting, engine stop-start system, 1-touch electric windows, wireless charging pad, and two speakers, going from six to four.

With that in mind, the crossover still has a lot to offer with 17-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, automatic LED headlights, keyless entry and start, a multifunction steering wheel, artificial leather upholstery, four USB ports, dual-zone climate control, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

It also comes with cruise control, tyre-pressure monitoring, traffic sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, and six airbags.

Engine

The Million Edition is equipped with the same 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine as the non-hybrid Comfort and Elite models.

This means it has access to 108kW and 210Nm, which is sent down to the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

As a result, the Tiggo Cross achieves an average fuel consumption of 6.5l/100km.

The South African pricing for the updated Chery Tiggo Cross series is as follows:

• Chery Tiggo Cross 1.5 CSH Hybrid Comfort – R439,900
• Chery Tiggo Cross 1.5T Elite – R449,900
• Chery Tiggo Cross 1.5 CSH Hybrid Elite – R469,900

This includes a 5-year/150,000km warranty, a 5-year/60,000km service plan, a 10-year/1-million km engine warranty, and a 10-year/unlimited km hybrid battery warranty for the CSH units.
