BMW reveals new limited-edition sports cars – Based on a South African icon

BMW has taken the covers off two new limited-edition models that pay homage to the carmaker’s legacy.

Enter the 325iS and the 333i Homage Editions, two models that celebrate BMW’s motoring history in South Africa.

“Two South African legends are back, reimagined for a new generation,” said the company.

“Both models pay direct tribute to the second-generation BMW 3 Series icons that defined an era.”

“The BMW 325iS, affectionately known as the “Gusheshe,” became a cultural symbol of aspiration, performance and style, while the BMW 333i, produced in extremely limited numbers, remains one of South Africa’s most sought-after performance legends.”

The starting price for each of the cars is as follows:

  • BMW 325iS Homage Edition – R1,435,000
  • BMW 333i Homage Edition – R1,960,000

Each car will be limited to just 33 units (66 total), which will be sold exclusively via an online auction on Tuesday, 21 October.

All proceeds will be donated to charities supported by BMW Group South Africa.

Old meets new

The 325iS Homage Edition is based on the M240i xDrive, which means it has access to a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 285kW and 500Nm.

Paired with the brand’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system and an eight-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox, it can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.3 seconds.

The 333i, meanwhile, takes things a step further, as it uses the current-gen M2 as its foundation.

It also has a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, but can tap into an impressive 353kW and 600Nm, letting it race to 100km/h in 4.0 seconds.

Unlike the 325i, the 333i is rear-wheel-drive, letting owner enjoy a more traditional racing experience out on the track.

The body and interior of both Homage Edition vehicles are meant to imitate the models they are named after, with various “old-school” cosmetic details.

The 325i has a double rear spoiler, heritage style wheels, the M Sport Pro package, M Sports seats, a front splitter, black door handles, and original Überkaro tartan upholstery.

Likewise, the 333i has Alpina wheels, 333i Homage decals, a quad exhuast, a bespoke spoiler and front splitter, Carbon bucket seats, and Überkaro tartan upholstery.

Both coupes also have commemorative plaques that list the production number of the car, from 1 to 33.

They are also available in a variety of colours, including Mineral White, Sapphire Black, Skyscraper Grey, Fire Red, Alpine White, Brooklyn Grey, and Zandvoort Blue.

Not every aspect of the vehicle is retro, however, as they still come with modern comforts like automatic climate control and the brand’s dual driver and infotainment display.
