New Renault Triber goes on sale in South Africa – Pricing and features

Renault has officially launched the updated Triber in South Africa.

The new people carrier is available in five specifications, including a commercial Express variant, and prices start at R218,999.

Visually, the French carmaker has given the Triber a new piano black grille, a redesigned bonnet, new front and rear bumpers to set it apart from the models that came before it.

Of course, the MPV’s main selling point is its flexible seating arrangement, which can accommodate up to seven people.

The third row “Easy-Fix” seats can be folded flat, which gives the car a segment-leading 625-litre boot as a five-seater, according to the automaker.

In terms of equipment, the base Evolution comes with 14-inch wheels, electric windows, manual air conditioning, a wireless phone charger, cloth seats, Isofix child seat mounts, a 7-inch digital driver display, an 8-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring, rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera.

The mid-range Techno will add larger 15-inch rims, silver skid plates, LED taillamps, a cooled centre console storage compartment, and a multifunction steering wheel.

Upgrading to the range-topping Iconic will throw in 15-inch dual-tone wheels, auto-folding side mirrors, LED headlights and daytime running lights, keyless start, wireless smartphone connectivity, front parking sensors, and rain-sensing wipers.

The Express version, meanwhile, sacrifices the rear seats in favour of a cargo area with a volume of 1,500 litres, which can support loads weighing up to 542kg.

Engine

The new Triber series is powered by a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which produces 52kW and 96Nm.

Most of the variants are equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox with the exception of the range-topping Iconic, which has a five-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).

Regardless of the gearbox selected, the Renault achieves an average fuel consumption of 5.5l/100km.
