New Mercedes-Benz EQV goes on sale in South Africa – Pricing and features

Mercedes-Benz has officially launched the new EQV in South Africa.

The EQV is an all-electric version of the brand’s luxurious V-Class, able to take up to seven occupants.

As you’d expect, the EQV is on the high-end of the people carrier spectrum, as prices for the new Mercedes start at R2,301,577, according to our sources at Duoporta.

Powertrain

The electron-powered V-Class is fitted with a single, front-mounted motor, which generates a respectable 174kW and 500Nm.

This allows it to reach a top speed of 158km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 12.1 seconds, which is pretty good for a people carrier with a kerb weight of 2,748kg.

Power is supplied by a 90kWh battery, which the German carmaker claims will deliver a range of 363km.

Charging the cells takes around nine and a half hours with an 11kW AC cable, but you can recharge it to 80% in just 40 minutes with a 110kW DC connection.

The EQV is 5,140mm long, 2,244mm wide (including wing mirrors), and 1,901mm tall, with a wheelbase measuring 3,200mm.

It also has AIRMATIC air suspension for improved comfort.

Features

The EQV has all of the comforts you’d expect from a R2-million Benz, starting with a set of automatic LED headlights, daytime running lights, and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the dashboard is dominated by the brand’s signature MBUX display, comprised of two 12.3-inch screens for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system.

The touchscreen supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the car has built-in navigation with an augmented reality function that can project traffic and route information onto the road in real time.

The Mercedes also has keyless entry and start, a Nappa leather steering wheel, 64-colour ambient lighting, a 15-speaker Burmester stereo, a wireless charger, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, electric front seats with heating and ventilation functions, and leather upholstery for all seven seats.

Safety and assistance functions include nine airbags, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view camera, active brake assist, tyre pressure monitoring, lane-keep assist, driver attention monitoring, traffic sign detection, and blind spot monitoring.

Each purchase comes with a 5-year/100,000km warranty.
