New Deepal S07 goes on sale in South Africa – Pricing and features

Changan and its new-energy sub-brand Deepal have officially launched in South Africa with a selection of four new cars.

One of these models is the Changan Deepal S07, an upmarket electric crossover that will serve as the flagship of the company’s initial catalogue.

The S07 is available in a single specification, and prices start at R995,900.

This includes a 5-year/150,000km warranty, a 5-year/90,000km maintenance plan, and an 8-year/150,000km battery warranty.

Powertrain

The new Deepal is powered by a single electric motor, which is mounted over the rear axle.

It generates 160kW and 320Nm, allowing for a relatively brisk 0-100km/h time of 7.9 seconds.

Hooked up to the e-motor is an 80kWh battery, which affords a WLTP driving range of around 500km, though the Chinese CLTC standard claims a higher average of 560km.

With an 11kW AC charger, it will take around eight hours to top up the power bank, but you can also achieve an 80% recharge in 30 minutes when using a 93kW DC fast outlet.

Features

The sleek crossover comes standard with 20-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights and daytime running lights, rain-sensing wipers, an electric sunroof, and flush door handles.

It also has keyless entry and start, a leather multifunction steering wheel, electric front seats with lumbar support and ventilation, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, 14 speakers, a 40W wireless charger, an augmented reality heads-up display, and a rotating 15.6-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Additionally, the S07 has an advanced driver assistance suite with adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, traffic jam assist, traction control, hill start and descent control, tyre pressure monitoring, front collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot detection, pedestrian recognition, two front parking sensors, four rear parking sensors, and a 36-degree camera with a transparent chassis view.
